Operation Brock to be removed ahead of schedule

Following a review, the Operation Brock traffic management system on the M20 will be removed ahead of schedule, as confidence in the remainder of the summer getaway has increased.

The Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF) confirmed work will take place overnight this Sunday (16^th August) to remove the contraflow barrier from the M20, with the motorway fully reopening on Monday 17^th August.

A co-ordinated response from KMRF partners, including KCC, Kent Police and National Highways has meant that disruption has been kept to a minimum for the many thousands of Kent residents impacted by traffic associated with the summer getaway.

Positive efforts by the French Police aux Frontières has ensured that traffic at the border has remained fluid. This has prevented traffic building up on Kent’s roads, meaning that Operation Brock can now be removed a week early.

KMRF Strategic Lead for Border Disruption, Simon Jones, said: “We have always said the decisions we make will be based on data and evidence and I am confident that we are past the most significantly risky part of this summer’s getaway.

“I want to thank all partners, including our French counterparts, who have shown resolute dedication to keeping the border as fluid and free moving as possible.

“By preparing for busy periods, we ensure that people can get to where they need to be safely, while keeping the disruption to an absolute minimum.”
